Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQs

Should I purchase Velcro or Slip-On?

Velcro - Ideal for little ones with slim or narrow feet, our velcro style offers both support and flexibility. It's a popular choice among younger children, especially those wearing sizes 3, 4, and 5.

Slip on - Perfect for busy toddlers, encouraging self-dressing and independence. It's also a favourite among more confident walkers, commonly those wearing sizes 6 and 7.

What if my child is measuring between sizes?

If your little one's foot measurement is on the boarder line, we recommend opting for the snugger fit especially if they fall within a younger age range (under 14 months). The reason being is, they're most likely not confidently walking just yet, so having a shoe that's too lose will only add to the challenge and run the risk of the shoe falling off.

If your little one is a bit older and a confident mover, we find they manage well when given a bit of wiggle room so sizing slightly larger is commonly not an issue for them in this case.

At the end of the day, we want to ensure their Duckies slip on and stay on so another thing to keep in mind is the style of shoe you opt for (Velcro vs Slip on)

Velcro comes recommended if your shopping for a younger age group (sizes 3, 4 5) or if they have a more narrow or slim line foot while the Slip on is better suited for an older age group (sizes 6, 7) or a wider or slightly chunkier foot.

How do I measure my child's foot

We have put together a handy size guide which can be found here.

Alternatively, you can use the steps below.

1.Place paper on the floor- Lay a piece of paper flat on the floor with one edge touching a wall.
2. Position your child- Have your child stand on the paper with their heel against the wall.
3. Mark the longest toe- Use a pencil to mark where the longest toe ends.
4. Repeat for other foot- Replicate the same process with the other foot on a separate piece of paper (or flip the first one).
5. Measure the Length- Using a ruler, measure the distance from the wall edge to the toe mark on each piece of paper.
6. Use the Longer Measurement- Compare both measurements and use the longer one when choosing the best fit for your little one.

Are Duckies barefoot shoes?

Duckies are designed in a way that mimics barefoot movement as the shoe is flexible, light, breathable, grippy and wide, which allows for little toes to splay out comfortably. Duckies soles are a little thicker than traditional barefoot shoes but majority of the features are very similar.

What age are Duckies shoes designed for?

Duckies shoes are designed for babies and toddlers from the first steps stage through to confident walkers who are running and playing. They are ideal for little ones roughly in the 6–36 month range, depending on when your child begins walking and how quickly they grow.

The combination of a soft, breathable mesh knit upper, wide toe box and flexible sole makes Duckies suitable for new walkers, early walkers and active toddlers who need everyday footwear for daycare, playgrounds and outdoor adventures.

Are Duckies recommended for first‑time walkers?

Yes! Duckies are specifically designed for first-time walkers and early toddlers who are learning to stand, and take independent steps.

Our shoes feature a wide toe box, highly flexible sole and super lightweight construction to support natural foot movement and healthy foot development in those crucial first walking months.

The breathable knit upper hugs the foot gently without restricting growth, while the grippy non-slip rubber sole helps prevent slips on tiles, playgrounds and outdoor surfaces. Duckies are trusted by over 150,000+ parents around the world, and recommended as everyday shoes for babies and toddlers starting to walk and exploring the world on their own two feet.
